Beloved Actor Simon Fisher-Becker Passes Away at 63
British character actor Simon Fisher-Becker, known for his memorable roles in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Doctor Who, has passed away at the age of 63.
His husband, Tony Dugdale, announced the heartbreaking news in a Facebook post, confirming that Fisher-Becker passed away on Sunday. No further details regarding the cause of death have been disclosed.
Kim Barry, his agent at Jaffrey Management, also confirmed the news in a statement to CNN, expressing profound grief at the loss of not just a client, but a cherished friend of 15 years.
“I lost not only a client, Simon Fisher-Becker, but a close personal friend,” Barry shared. “He helped me out enormously and was always kind, gracious, and genuinely interested in everyone.”
Fisher-Becker’s acting career began in the 1990s, with appearances in television shows such as Hale and Pace and One Foot in the Grave. However, it was his role in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone that brought him into the international spotlight, portraying the ghostly specter known as the Fat Friar, who haunts the halls of Hogwarts.
His work in Doctor Who further solidified his legacy, with his portrayal of the enigmatic Dorium Maldovar in multiple episodes between 2010 and 2011. He later lent his voice to General Nylan in Doctor Who Online Adventures in 2014, continuing his connection to the beloved sci-fi universe.
A familiar face on the convention circuit, Fisher-Becker delighted in meeting fans, sharing stories, and celebrating the franchises he was a part of. His passion for performance extended beyond the screen; between 2013 and 2018, he starred in three seasons of the UK-based sci-fi drama Waterside. More recently, he voiced Arthur Morstan in Sherlock Holmes and contributed to several podcast series, including Abnormal Stories (2022) and Jenny – The Doctor’s Daughter (2024), which stands as his final credited work.
Reflecting on his career, Fisher-Becker spoke warmly about the industry and the people who shaped his journey. In a 2023 interview with BTG Interviews, he expressed gratitude for the kindness of his colleagues.
“Most of the actors I’ve gotten to work with, especially the bigger names, have been utterly delightful and very kind,” he said. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without the kindness of those people.”
Fisher-Becker’s passing leaves a void in the entertainment world, but his warmth, humor, and immense talent will live on in the hearts of fans and colleagues alike. His legacy as a performer and as a person will never be forgotten.
Rest in peace, Simon Fisher-Becker.
