Anthony Davis Recalled by Mavericks After One-Day G League Stint
DALLAS — The return of Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks lineup may be coming sooner than expected.
On Monday morning, the Mavs assigned Davis and guard Jaden Hardy to their G League affiliate, the Texas Legends, for a practice session. Just hours later, both players were recalled to rejoin the NBA roster.
Davis’ Status and Potential Return Timeline
While the team has not officially announced when Davis will suit up for a game, the quick recall suggests his return could be imminent—especially given Dallas’ ongoing frontcourt injury struggles.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Hardy and two-way big man Kai Jones could be available for the Mavericks’ next game Wednesday against the Indiana Pacers. However, it remains unclear if Davis will also be active for that matchup.
Davis, 32, has been out since February 8, when he suffered an adductor strain in the third quarter of his Mavs debut following the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade. The team recently provided a positive injury update, stating that he is now cleared for more dynamic on-court movements, indicating steady progress in his recovery.
Why Davis and Hardy Were Sent to the G League
The Mavericks’ decision to briefly send Davis and Hardy to the G League was a strategic move to get them additional 5-on-5 practice reps without throwing them directly into NBA game action. When an NBA player is assigned to the G League, they remain under contract with their NBA team and can be recalled at any time, as Dallas did Monday afternoon.
What’s Next for the Mavericks?
After facing the Pacers on Wednesday, the Mavs will host the Detroit Pistons on Friday, followed by a two-day break before heading on the road to face the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.
With Davis ramping up his workload, Dallas fans may not have to wait much longer to see him back in action.
