Marty Supreme Brings the Heat: Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothée Chalamet’s Steamy New Sports Comedy

Move over, Challengers—there’s a new sizzling sports film on the horizon.

In a new Vanity Fair profile, Gwyneth Paltrow shared details about her highly anticipated return to acting in Marty Supreme, a ping-pong comedy from A24 that pairs her with Timothée Chalamet. After the two were spotted kissing on set, Paltrow teased that fans can expect plenty more where that came from.

“I mean, we have a lot of sex in this movie,” Paltrow revealed. “There’s a lot—a lot.”

When asked by Vanity Fair if she found herself in “a lot of vulnerable positions” with Chalamet, she simply responded, “Beyond.”

Paltrow’s Return to the Big Screen

Marty Supreme marks Paltrow’s first film in six years since Avengers: Endgame (2019) and her first non-Marvel role since Mortdecai (2015). Her return also came with a learning curve—she admitted she was unfamiliar with the role of an intimacy coordinator, a position that has become standard in Hollywood to ensure actors’ comfort during intimate scenes.

While she acknowledged their presence, Paltrow and Chalamet ultimately chose to handle things themselves. “I don’t know how it is for kids who are starting out, but… if someone is like, ‘Okay, and then he’s going to put his hand here,’ I would feel, as an artist, very stifled by that,” she explained.

A Love Affair in the Ping-Pong World

Directed by Josh Safdie, Marty Supreme remains somewhat of a mystery in terms of plot, but Paltrow shared insight into her character. She plays a woman “who is married to someone in the Ping-Pong mafia, as it were,” and ends up in a complicated relationship with Chalamet’s character.

“They meet, and she’s had a pretty tough life,” Paltrow explained. “I think he breathes life back into her, but it’s kind of transactional for them both.”

Despite working closely together, Paltrow admitted she had never seen a Chalamet film before signing onto the project. However, she had nothing but praise for her co-star, calling him “such a thinking man’s sex symbol” and describing him as “a very polite, properly raised man who takes his work really seriously and is a fun partner.”

A Rising Trend in Hollywood

Marty Supreme joins a wave of films featuring older women in relationships with younger men, following in the footsteps of Nicole Kidman’s Babygirl and Anne Hathaway’s The Idea of You.

With a December 25 release date, the film appears to be positioned as a potential awards contender for the 2026 Oscars. The cast also includes Tyler, the Creator and Fran Drescher, making it one of two highly anticipated projects from the Safdie brothers set to debut in 2025.

Audiences can see Paltrow’s return to serious acting—and all the onscreen chemistry with Chalamet—when Marty Supreme hits theaters this Christmas.
