Kanye West and SZA Are Not on Playboi Carti’s New Album, ‘Music,’ Contrary to Rumors

One common complaint about the streaming era is the absence of traditional album artwork and comprehensive liner notes, as seen in vinyl and CD releases. A major drawback of this is the lack of an official source for full album credits. While platforms like Spotify provide limited songwriter and producer credits (accessible via a series of clicks), and Tidal offers near-complete information to its subscribers, sources like Genius.com and Wikipedia remain unofficial and sometimes inaccurate.

As a result, misinformation spreads—such as the rumor that Kanye West produced “Good Credit,” one of the Kendrick Lamar-assisted tracks on Playboi Carti’s blockbuster new album, I Am Music. Despite the speculation, a representative for Carti confirmed to Variety that West had no involvement in the song, even though it features a sped-up sample reminiscent of his 2004 debut, The College Dropout. On Friday morning, West further dismissed any connection by posting on X, “I don’t like Kendrick Lamar’s music. He raps very good but I didn’t need to hear him on Carti album.”

Additionally, despite some confusion, SZA does not appear on the album. Carti’s rep clarified that the vocals mistaken for hers belong to singer-songwriter-rapper Jhené Aiko.

Full credits for I Am Music have yet to be released due to last-minute changes to the 76-minute, 30-track album, which led to a significant delay. Originally set for a midnight ET release, the album did not arrive on streaming platforms until nearly seven and a half hours later. Ironically, similar release setbacks have recently occurred with albums from SZA and West.

Confirmed guest appearances on I Am Music include Lamar and Travis Scott (each featured on three tracks), along with Aiko, The Weeknd, Skepta, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla $ign, and Young Thug. The album marks Carti’s first full-length project since Whole Lotta Red, which dropped on Christmas Day 2020. Initially announced in September of last year, I Am Music was introduced with the single “All Red.”

Carti is set to headline Rolling Loud California 2025 this weekend alongside A$AP Rocky and Peso Pluma. The festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California.
