Mavericks Assign Anthony Davis to G League for Injury Recovery
The Dallas Mavericks have assigned Anthony Davis to the Texas Legends, their G League affiliate, allowing the 10-time All-Star to participate in full-contact 5-on-5 scrimmages as he works his way back from a strained left adductor.
Davis, the centerpiece of the Mavs’ return in the highly scrutinized Luka Dončić trade, has been sidelined since February 8. His lone appearance in a Dallas uniform saw him deliver a dominant 26-point, 16-rebound, 7-assist, 3-block performance before exiting early due to injury.
Though internal discussions have taken place about potentially shutting Davis down for the season, sources indicate that the superstar remains adamant about making a return before the year ends.
Jaden Hardy Also Assigned to Texas Legends
The Mavericks also assigned Jaden Hardy to the Legends as he continues to recover from a sprained ankle that has sidelined him for the past seven games.
Mavs Facing Depth Challenges
Dallas has been battling significant injury setbacks, often playing with only the league-minimum eight active players in recent games—including Sunday’s home loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.
Compounding the issue, two-way players Kessler Edwards and Brandon Williams are nearing their season limit for NBA appearances, meaning the team could soon lose two key contributors.
Although the Mavericks have an open roster spot and qualify for a hardship exception, they remain hard-capped at the first salary cap apron and lack the financial flexibility to sign a player to even a 10-day contract.
With their playoff hopes still alive, Dallas is hoping for reinforcements soon—starting with Davis and Hardy making their way back to the court.
