Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting labelled Prabhsimran Singh one of the most talented players in the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) and asserted that he has ‘really high expectations’ for the youngster this season.
Along with Shashank Singh, Prabhsimran was one of two players PBKS retained ahead of the mega auction. The 24-year-old has been with Punjab for six seasons (since 2019) but, despite showing real sparks occasionally, has not had a head-turning breakthrough season.
“Prabhsimran Singh is someone I’ve got really high expectations for this year,” Ponting said at a media interaction ahead of the new season.
“I’ve told him that already. Talent-wise, I think he’s as good as anybody in the tournament.”
At the same event, Ponting picked South Africa’s Marco Jansen as the most underrated player in the Kings’ squad. Jansen was purchased for INR 7 crore by PBKS at the mega auction.
“I think Marco Jansen is going to be a real surprise,” Ponting said.
“He’s an international player that’s done well in the last couple of years. I think his career is going to get better and better.”
PBKS will kick-start their IPL 2025 campaign against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on March 25 (Tuesday).
