Tracy Morgan Removed from Courtside Seat at Knicks Game After Medical Incident
Comedian Tracy Morgan experienced a medical episode during the New York Knicks’ game against the Miami Heat at Madison Square Garden on Monday, March 17, leading to a temporary delay in the game.
The 56-year-old actor and comedian appeared unwell during the game, with witnesses on social media reporting that he vomited and possibly suffered a bloody nose. A widely circulated image appeared to show Morgan vomiting onto the floor, while another video captured the 30 Rock star being escorted out in a wheelchair, covering his face with a towel.
The Knicks-Heat matchup, which ended in a 116-95 victory for the Knicks, was briefly paused for about 10 minutes in the third quarter due to Morgan’s health incident.
“We hope Tracy feels better soon and look forward to seeing him back courtside,” a Madison Square Garden representative told PEOPLE.
Morgan’s representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A History of Health Challenges
Morgan has faced significant health issues in the past. He was diagnosed with diabetes and underwent a kidney transplant in 2010. In 2014, he survived a devastating car accident when a Walmart truck struck his limousine on the New Jersey Turnpike. The crash left Morgan in a coma for two weeks, with multiple injuries, including a broken leg. His friend and mentor, James McNair, tragically lost his life in the accident.
Following months in a wheelchair and extensive rehabilitation, Morgan had to relearn how to walk and speak. Reflecting on the accident’s 10th anniversary, he expressed gratitude for his survival and extended forgiveness to the truck driver involved. “I want to say to everyone who was in the van with me that night: I love you. We miss you, Uncle Jimmy Mac, and God bless your family,” Morgan told PEOPLE. “And to the driver that night and his family, me and my comrades forgive you.”
Continuing His Career and Legacy
Despite his past struggles, Morgan has remained active in entertainment. In 2017, he channeled his experiences into comedy, releasing the Netflix special Staying Alive, where he shared his journey to recovery.
Most recently, he attended SNL50, the 50th-anniversary celebration of Saturday Night Live, appearing in several sketches. Reflecting on his resilience and career, he told comedian Matt Rogers during the SNL50: The Red Carpet special, “This is incredible. Just thank the Lord that I’m a part of this, that I survived the accident, and I’m alive to be here for this.”
As fans and fellow entertainers send well wishes, Morgan’s supporters remain hopeful for a swift recovery and his return to the courtside seats he loves.
